SKF Solid Oil Bearings
Solid oil is an oil-saturated polymer matrix that completely fills the free space in the bearing, encapsulating the rolling element and cage, the polymer material has a porous structure with millions of micropores to hold the lubricating oil, and since the pores are very small, the oil is retained in the material by surface tension.
When a metal surface (such as the raceway of a bearing) slides over a solid oil, it is covered by a uniform film of oil, and then, only at a modest increase in operating temperature, the oil is pushed towards the surface of the polymer matrix, this "low" oil in the polymer matrix because the oil has a higher coefficient of thermal expansion than the polymer matrix, and because the viscosity of the oil decreases with increasing temperature, the oil is pushed towards the surface of the polymer matrix because the oil has a higher coefficient of thermal expansion than the polymer matrix. When the bearing stops running, the excess oil is reabsorbed into the polymer matrix.
Long service life
The increase in operating temperature promotes the flow of lubricating oil to the surface of the polymer material, thus continuously lubricating the bearing. When shut down, all excess lubricating oil is reabsorbed into the polymer material.
Extend the service life of the lubricant
Solid oil bearings can utilize a large amount of lubricating oil (two to four times that of conventional greases) during operation.
The solid oil polymer structure eliminates the oil-stirring phenomenon of the lubricant.
Solid oil is a high quality synthetic oil with good oxidation resistance.
Anti-washing
The solid oil does not wash away and fills almost all of the free space inside the bearing, limiting the amount of moisture contaminants entering the bearing.
Water is not compatible with lubricants or solid oil polymers.
Lubricant leaks are virtually eliminated
The solid oil holds the lubricant inside the bearing.
The built-in bearing seal will further improve the retention of lubricating oil.
Prevent pollutant intrusion
The solid oil is in close contact with the roller and raceway, which can greatly reduce the intrusion of pollutants.
The built-in seal of the solid oil bearing provides additional sealing protection.
